(3-Day) Plein Air with Chris Groves

Join world-renowned artist Christopher Groves in a special class covering various techniques of drawing along with preliminary charcoal sketches, value and color studies, and fundamentals of color mixing. Classical approach of monochromatic under painting, directed observation and application of color techniques will be discussed and shown. Class will consist of lectures and lots of individual critiques, while the student paints his or her own landscape. Students will bring their own reference material to paint from for day 1. Day 2 will be painting on location outside. Lecture and applications techniques will be discussed and demoed. Students will paint various scenes around town and harbor. Day 3 morning will be painting on location outside, and day 3 afternoon will be full class critique and in order to discuss the previous days paintings.

Class will begin in the Center for the Arts at Mission Point for day 1. Topics on materials, palette, and composition, in order to prepare for painting outdoors on day 2 and day 3.
